Cecil Touchon is an artist who works in many media and in a wide ranging field of ideas. One unifying factor is Touchon's interest in early Modernist abstraction. Another recurring element is the use of collage as a form of serial exploration in his work. Collage also serves as Touchon's preferred method of generating imagery as other artists might use sketching or drawing in their preparatory works. In the same way Touchon's collages, though finished works in themselves, serve as models for his larger works on canvas or panel. He often works painstakingly to simulate the elements in the collage in a subtle trompe l'oeil fashion that often confuse viewers and artists alike perhaps because one doe not often see fool-the-eye illusionist techniques used in these kinds of abstraction.
